Samuel L Jackson Joins Chris Pratt’s Garfield Movie
It seems Samuel L Jackson loves lasagna and hates Mondays because he joined the Garfield movie starring Chris Pratt. The Hollywood legend, who has been in the MCU, Star Wars and more, was cast in the comedy film as a new character.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this role is that of Garfield’s father. Garfield’s cannon is moving here, people! Jackson’s character is named Vic, and for now all we know is that he will voice the animated film alongside Pratt, who is the eponymous cat. Mark Dindal is directing, from a script by David Reynolds. The couple previously worked together on the Disney movie The Emperor’s New Groove, each with a long list of House of Mouse credits.
Little is known about this new Garfield movie beyond the involvement of these four. To be fair though, Samuel L Jackson playing Chris Pratt’s father bodes well, if only because we hope he’s downright cantankerous. A human character, Jon Arbuckle, has yet to be cast, and Odie, the lovable dog.
Garfield comes from a comic strip by Jim Davis, where the cat lazes around and makes ironic observations about life and its owner over the course of two or three panels. The gags are short and usually very dry.
There have been several television series based on the Orange Cat, as well as a few specials and movies. Most famous are the pair of family films with Bill Murray providing the voice of Garfield. It would be an overstatement to call them good, but they are very meme-worthy.
There’s currently no release date, but we’re sure the internet will have a say whenever Pratt’s Garfield arrives.
