In focus in Cottbus

“It would be impossible to have a full-scale review of the Hungarian film scene of the past 15 years, even in the course of 15 programs, since Hungarian film is ever so diverse, exciting, ambitious and innovative.”-  as a curator of the Hungarian selection in Cottbus puts it. The FOCUS program of the Cottbus Film Festival starting 8 November, presented a thrilling selection of Hungarian films made in the past 15 years.


280 thousand Euros for Szász’s film

The Directing Board of EURIMAGES held its 97th session in Paris 9 – 12 October 2005. The film fund of the European Council has agreed on a 280 000 funding for János Szász’s new film Egy elmebeteg nő nalpója. The movie based on Géza Csáth’s book bearing the same title will be a Hungarian-German-English co-production, Hunnia Film Studios being responsible for the Hungarian parts.


Susannah York in the movie on Kőrösi Csoma

Tibor Szemző’s film commemorating the life and achievements of Sándor Kőrösi Csoma has reached post production state. The movie with the international title Csoma Legendárium (Az élet vendége) is expected to arouse interest internationally. Therefore the creators have just finished the English version of the Hungarian narration by Mari Törőcsik. The English version is narrated by the famous British actress Susannah York.


Conference of the Film Industry in Uránia Movie Theatre

The world of banking has shown growing interest in the perspectives of the Hungarian film industry. As a result there are new credit constructions for billions, financial systems and consulting companies offering various services. There are several studio plans in the making and everyone agrees on the fact that without the expansion of the infrastructure of the film industry as well as without the initiatives for the education of professionals these positive processes might start to reverse.
