Freedom Prize for Béla Tarr
The prize, which acknowledges the role Béla Tarr plays in the world of film, was handed over on Feb. 6, 2005 at 7 p.m. in the presence of Andrzej Wajda at the Arsenal Theater in Berlin.

Grand Prize for Black Brush

The Awards of the 36th Film Week

The jury panel awarded the grand prize of the Film Week to Roland Vranik, the director of Fekete kefe (Black Brush). The prize of the shorts category went to Zoltán Gayer and Péter Molnár for The Caroussel Rite. In the experimental category, Sándor Kardos’ Résfilm was the winner, while in the documentary category, Eldorádó by Tibor Kocsis came first. The winner of the prize for best debut went to Attila Mispál for Paths of Light, while Péter Gárdos won the award for best direction with The Porcelain Doll, which also received the Gene Moskowitz award of foreign film critics.

Sorstalanság – Already 150,000 Viewers
Sorstalanság (Fateless), the film by Lajos Koltai and Imre Kertész, has been running in cinemas for the second week, and on Sunday evening the 150,000th ticket was sold.

Dallas a Success

The Film Union is Satisfied with the Hungarian Performance in Berlin
Éva Vezér, the managing director of the Film Union was optimistic in her interview with filmhu after the Berlin Film Festival. She said that „something has started”, which is due to the festival successes of the past years as well as the benefits offered by the Film Law and the recent coproductions. Róbert Pejo’s Dallas Pashmende, which was screened in the Panorama section, had the biggest success among Hungarian films, and in spite of the mixed reviews, Sorstalanság also had success, she said.
