After two weeks of intense reading and deliberation the list of participants of the 2007 Central European Pitch Forum has been decided upon. The panel of readers were stunned by not only the unexpectedly large number of submissions but the incredibly high overall quality of the submitted scripts as well. This made for a tough decision.

As we reported earlier, Andrey Konchalovsky's Nutcracker adaptation is being made in Hungary, with John Turturro cast in the role of the evil Mouse King. The 65 million dollar project, originally set to kick off at the beginning of April, was postponed until July because the producers were unable to reach an agreement with the actors, Hungarian co-producer József Cirkó revealed. Hellboy and Good are underway.

Filmpartners is enjoying a productive period: hardly had Ferenc Török's Overnight, co-produced with Katapultfilm and Schmidtz Katze Filmkollektiv from Germany, premiered at this year's Titanic Film Festival, when Béla Paczolay's Kalandorok began production, work on Delta resumed, and shooting for Szabolcs Hajdú's new feature film begins in August. We talked to Gábor Kovács, head of Filmpartners, about the company's plans, and opportunities for Hungarian producers. »

The Central European Pitch Forum to be held this October in Pécs, Hungary, has received a surprising number of screenplays: all in all 59 applications have arrived from as many as 19 countries. For a first-of-its-kind event making its debut it is a stunning amount, proving the organizers’ theory that CEPF will definitely fill a void in Europe.
