Károly Esztergályos: Férfiakt

The well-known television director Károly Esztergályos has made a new feature film. Férfiakt is the chronicle of an unconventional love story. The main character, an aging writer falls in love unexpectedly with a young boy, and his life falls into pieces.

Modifications to Film Law

The modification of the film law, which was passed by the parliament on February 13, entered into force on April 1. The Film Law passed by the Parliament with consent in 2004 has been modified in the first place on regarding film rights, incompatibility rules, activities of the National Film Office, the point system-based co-productions and concerning the proportion of maximum state subsidies of motion pictures.


Andor Szilágyi: Mansfeld

Andor Szilágyi’s new film pays homage to Peter Mansfeld, the youngest martyr of the reprisals after the 1956 revolution.


The Digitalfilm Professional Forum

A professional forum was organized in the Urania Filmtheatre with the title ‘Protecting Film Culture – possibilities and alternatives in the digital age’ for film-makers by the recently established DIGITALFILM Film Creators' Hungarian Digital Rights Society.


The Man from London rolling again

Bela Tarr has started working on his new film The Man from London again, reported the production company. The shooting expectedly ends by the end of the year. In the main roles we will see Miroslav Krobot, Tilda Swinton, János Derzsi, István Lénárt, Ági Szirtes, Erika Bók and Gyula Pauer; the cameraman is Fred Kelemen. The film is an international co-prodution with Hungarian, German and French contributors. The script is based on Georges Simenon’s novel bearing the same title and was written by László Krasznahorkai and Béla Tarr.
 

György Dobray at work

While György Dobray is working on the pre-productions of his film The Whiskey Robber, he has time for the documentary (Stork Story) that received the Best Documentary Director Prize at the Budapest Hungarian Film Week and for a television film with Zoltán Egressy (4 x 100).


Film studios on several bases

Mafilm Rt. together with Filmlaboratórium (Filmlab) is soon to be owned by Magyar Mozgókép Közalapítvány (Hungarian Motion Picture Fundation) which might still preserve its leading position in the industry with its sites at Róna street and in Fót. Erzsébet Tóth chief secretary said that long term plans are not distinct yet, but they are expected to progress in the direction of development and investment of capital.
