Our films in the world – international festivals in the first week of November

 Hungarian films in and out of competition in Cottbus
The contemporary cinema of Eastern Europe is in the focus of interest at the Cottbus Film Festival which was established in 1991. Hungary participates with two films in competition, three screenings out of competition and one member of the jury this year.
The festival begins on November 4th and Csaba Fazekas will personally present his film, Happy Birthday in the competition. Joan of Arc on the Night Bus, an opera film by Kornél Mundruczó is in competition in the short feature category. György Pálfi, the director of Hukkle, has been invited as a member of the international jury: his latest film, Shaman vs.Icarus will also be screened as part of a special program. Last year Hukkle received 4 prizes at this festival.
To the Spectrum section of contemporary cinema trends Bro' and Forest have been invited. Fliegauf’s film, which received the Wolfgang Staudte Prize at the Berlinale, will be screened in Saarbrücken, the town where Wolfgang Staudte was born in 1906, at the beginning of November.

Rinaldo in China
The 12th Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival begins on November 1st. At the festival held in Jiaxing, in the eastern part of China, a selection of the latest films will be screened with Rinaldo among them. Tamás Tóth, the director of the film will also be present.

Ballroom Dancing in Friesland
In Leeuwrden, the capital of Friesland, Holland Lívia Gyarmathy’s Ballroom Dancing will be screened at the greatest regional film festival beginning on November 5th.

Short film competitions
300 short films at the Interfilm in Berlin – Beginning November 4th, a selection of short films made all over the world will be screened for the 19th time in Berlin. The animation film The Fox and the Raven by Ferenc Czakó will be in competition in the children’s films section. 601-S, a short film by Márton Nyitrai has been invited to the section „the long night of the unexpected”.
The international short film competition held in Santiago de Chile begins on November 6th with nearly 1900 films. Hungary will be represented by After Rain and Postsoldier in competition.
In Brest, France the Festival of European Short Films begins on November 8th. At the festival established in 1986 50 films will be in competition. This year films from Central Eastern Europe will be screened for the first time. Psycho-parade has been invited to the competition where films from the countries about to join the EU are participating for the first time.
In Milan at MIFED a festival will be held between November 9th-13th devoted to the young cinema of „Europe of the 25”. Hungary will be represented by Grenades. The short film was directed by Péter Politzer and won the Best Director’s Prize at the Hungarian Film Week in February 2003.

Vagabond, Sleepwalkers and Fools’ Song in competition
In Amiens, France a film festival has been held for the 23rd time this year where almost 400 films have been screened. Vagabond, György Szomjas’ latest film which has recently opened in Hungary has been invited to the competition of feature films.
In Ourense, Spain at the International Film Festival of Independent Cinema Fools’ Song, Csaba Bereczky’s first film is in competition for the Calpurnia Award. Pure Romance a documentary film by Judit Surányi will also be screened out of competition.
In Ljubljana, Slovenia the international film festival begins on November 7th. In the competition called „Perspectives” where first or second films are invited, Sleepwakers will compete for the „Kingfisher” Award. In the section called "South by Southeast" Forest and Vagabond will also be screened. The prize will be awarded by the FIPRESCI jury.
